Total Miles: 327
We ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant. As we were walking out Galen used the $3.00 cash play and ended up winning $15 which was enough to cover our breakfast we just paid for. We stopped by and checked out the railroad museum in Ely before heading out of town. We had seen this railroad museum featured on the TV show “Rick’s Restoration”. The main guy from the museum that was on the TV show was there and told us all about their facility. It was late in the season most all the engines were in storage for the winter. They were all decked out for Halloween. Tonight was the last night they were running their Haunted Train Ride. We didn’t stick around to get a full tour because a winter storm was on our tail and we needed to make it back to the truck in Utah tonight.
We met back up with Highway 50 and headed east. Shortly after crossing the Utah we turned off and checked out the Tulle Valley. This was a dry lake bed and Galen was all about exploring it. I was a little less excited to venture out and explore. I could see water and I knew when this soil gets wet it could mean trouble. We were pretty remote which makes me even more concerned. Of course I had nothing to worry about.
It was a beautiful sunny day and Galen kept things PG rated for me.
We passed Sevier Lake which was not dry but very beautiful.
In Delta we top off fuel and contacted Kevin from 2UP Together. Kevin and his wife Beth started a Facebook page showcasing their motorcycle rides. Galen and I found their page and starting following them last May. Check out their page and make sure to click ‘like’ to follow their journey. We reached out to let them know we were going to be in town. Turns out Kevin had the day off and was out riding himself. We took Highway 6 North and met him in Eureka, UT. We chatted a little and then we followed him to an old mine that was capped off years ago. He pulled off to take our picture at this old Sinclair gas station.
Since it was getting late in the day and we hadn’t had lunch we decided to follow him back to Salt Lake and join him for an early dinner. We went to Sushi Groove which was awesome. They have a DJ in the restaurant spinning some fun 80’s beats. Beth had to work and couldn’t meet up with us but we were so grateful to have had a chance to meet Kevin. After dinner we traveled north and stayed back at my cousin’s place in Salt Lake. I was bummed I forgot to take a picture with Kevin. Here is a picture of both Kevin and Beth from their Facebook page.
